Dr. Barnica is the only board-certified colon and rectal surgeon in the Las Cruces area. He has a special interest in the prevention and surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancer, applying advanced techniques in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He is honored to be a part of Memorial Medical Center’s surgical team and take part in caring for the Las Cruces community. Dr. Barnica is fluent in English and Spanish.
Dr. Barnica obtained his medical degree at Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla, Mexico, then completed his General Surgery training at Mercy Catholic Medical Center. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Foxchase Cancer Center/Temple University, both in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He finished his surgical training after completing a subspecialty in Colon and Rectal Surgery at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Colon and Rectal Surgeons are experts in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus. Dr. Barnica completed advanced surgical training in the treatment of these diseases, as well as full general surgical training. Dr. Barnica is the only Fellowship Trained, Board Certified Colon and Rectal Surgeon in Southern New Mexico.
